Liposuction: Is It Right For You?
Liposuction is one of the most favored aesthetic procedures nowadays. This procedure, which is also known as lipoplasty or simply lipo, is a comparatively easy means to lose fat. However, a lot of people often have mistaken beliefs about it, and have often abused this procedure. If you are planning on having liposuction, you must be in your perfect weight already even before having the surgery. Learn more about the operation before you said yes to it.
Lipo is a cosmetic surgical operation that requires the suctioning of the fat out from specific parts of the body. While others wrongly mark this procedure as a weight loss surgery, liposuction is actually an operation that redefines the curves of the body areas that have stubborn fat deposits.
That said, liposuction is preferably done to patients who are within their ideal weight but have “problem” parts. This process won’t be able to eliminate your unwanted pounds. So if you are aiming to lose 20 or 30 pounds, this is not for you. In fact, the fats that will be removed from your body may just weigh 10 pounds at most. You can opt for a higher amount, but the bigger the fat out from you likewise means the bigger the risk.
Although liposuction can be done to older patients, there’s a substantial difference if a younger patient undergoes the procedure. This is because without elasticity, the skin may sag once the fats have been taken out. Ideally, the patient should be healthy, a non-smoker, and has firm and good skin elasticity.
Before everything else, be reasonable with your expectation. Lipo doesn’t improve cellulite, but it just extracts the fat deposits underneath it.
It would take around six months to fully convalesce. After the operation, swells and bruises appear immediately. The bruises can continue for a few weeks, but the swells take longer, around 2 to 3 months. It is better to avoid any strenuous and vigorous activities such as sports while you convalesce.
Always remember to go to your surgeon for post-operation checkups. The result won’t be evident at once. It ordinarily takes around 3 months before the full effect can be seen.
Leading a healthy lifestyle and keeping healthy eating habits is ideal before and after the surgery to achieve the utmost outcome. Always remember that liposuction is not a weight loss procedure but just a contouring operation.
